Tamiya Plamodel Factory in Tokyo

Modellers are a funny group of people, always willing to go through extraordinary lengths to get the correct detail on their models. As a child growing up in Japan I used to build all sorts of models from cars, airplanes and of course mechanized robots! However my models never turned out as good as the image on the box. My ships leaked water, the wheels on the cars never moved and my robots never had enough guns on them.

One of the best known plastic model manufacturers is a Japanese company called Tamiya. Known for their quality and attention to detail Tamiya models are consistently ranked as some of the best in the world. I decided to visit the Tamiya showroom which is located a short walk from the JR Shimbashi Station.

Hey Dave, unfortunately like most Japanese businesses they weren’t too keep on me filming inside so we had to be quick about it.

The store is pretty cool tho, 2 levels and lots of dioramas on display with the usual amazing details.

There’s a shop that sells plastic model kits in Bangkok, too. It’s on a small soi behind Chulalongkorn University campus, the one on the right hand side as you come up from MBK intersection.
